After graduation, I joined the Air Force and took my basic training at Lackland Air Force Base in San Antonio, TX. I trained basics for 18 months and then went to jet school. I was stationed at Pine Castle Air Force Base in Orlando, FL where I was a crew chief on a B-47. After four years of service I returned to Goodland where I renewed acquaintances and met Beverly Taylor. We had our first date in early October of 1954 and were married December 31 of that year. We moved to Atlanta where I was employed by Lockheed Aircraft modifying B-47s as a flightline supervisor. In 1958 I was employed as manager of customer services By Lake Central Airlines in Kalamazoo, MI, Canton, OH and St. Louis, MO. After several mergers and name changes, I retired from US Airways in St. Louis in 1989. One of my hobbies was playing golf and while working for the airlines, I had the opportunity to represent my airline in four annual world wide airline golf tournaments which were held in Palm Springs, CA; Melbourne Australia; San Juan Puerto Rico and finally at Turnberry in Scotland. My other hobbies are woodworking and travelling in our motorhome. After retirement, we spent winters in TX for 12 years and the past 5 years in AZ. We have three sons: Reed, a pediatric physician in Birmingham, AL. ; steve, retired VP of Yellow Pages for AT&T in Chicago and David, a practising attorney in St. Louis. We also have 8 grandchildren, six girls and two boys. (no great grandchildren as yet) we enjoy very much the school reunions and look forward to them when they occur. |
